On 5 May 2022, it was reported that plans to legislate for workers to keep tips have been dropped for “the foreseeable future” according to a senior government official.
The plans to introduce legislation to stop employers deducting money given as tips from workers were initially announced in 2018, and were to form part of the much anticipated “Employment Bill”. The Bill, however, was absent from the Queen’s Speech delivered by the Prince of Wales this May.
